Alexandra Benjamin

Alexandra came to Taos in 1992. She received a degree in painting from Goddard College. She worked for the Fenix gallery, and also for the Taos artists Ken Price and Beatrice Mandelman, helping Bea start the Mandelman-Ribak Foundation, eventually becoming its’ Executive Director. From 2000 to 2009, she and Doug Dreishpoon, Chief Curator at the Albright-Knox museum worked on an oral history project, initially on the circle of artists who knew Mandelman and Ribak in the 40’s and ‘50’s. The project then expanded to the next generation of artists and contributors to the art’s culture in Taos, completing forty-six interviews which are now at the Zimmerman Library of UNM and the Harwood Museum in Taos.

She has been active at the Harwood, joining the board in 2016, becoming board chair in 2017 until she retired in 2022. Throughout all the jobs and activities Alexandra has continued working in her studio.
